Tasmania health boss sent to hospital

The Tasmanian government has ordered the state's health service boss to spend a week in hospital to help fix patient care problems.

Tasmania's health service boss has been ordered to spend a week at the Royal Hobart Hospital to nose out the cause of problems that have angered the state government.

Following a number of incidents, including the high-profile case of a woman who suffered a miscarriage in a chair because there were no beds available, Health Minister Michael Ferguson ordered an urgent review of procedures.

"While our priority is always to put patients first, it is clear that the care required is not always being provided in a timely manner," the minister said, adding that health chief David Alcorn will be encamped at the hospital from Monday to find solutions.
