Almost a year after Uber got a green light in NSW the ride-sharing initiative has been launched in Tasmania.

About 70 people have already registered as Uber drivers in Tasmania, Premier Will Hodgman said at the launch on Friday.

"With a rapidly growing visitor economy it is important we keep pace with innovative products like ride-sharing which tourists have become accustomed to elsewhere," he said.
