Tasmanian batsman Alex Doolan has continued his compelling pitch for a Test spot after Sunday's Sheffield Shield action.

And while Matthew Renshaw failed to press his claims, the Marsh brothers found form with the bat.

Doolan's 94 in Hobart against Victoria is his fourth Shield half-century this season, along with a ton.

Doolan's last Test match was in 2014 but the 32-year-old's superb form puts him in the conversation ahead of the series against India starting on December 6 in Adelaide.

"People have started talking about it," Doolan told reporters.

"But ultimately, as top-order batsmen, we're judged on our hundreds' column and I've fallen short on that over the last two weeks."

Doolan was also out for 90 against NSW in last week's Shield round.

"I'm pleased with the way it's going. However, to get out last week in Sydney on 90 chasing the game, and again today in the 90s when we're setting up the game, is really disappointing personally."

Queenslander Renshaw, hoping to force his way into Test opening batting contention, made just six against NSW.

Renshaw has only one Shield score higher than 21 this season. On Sunday, he was caught behind from Josh Hazlewood's bowling in Canberra.

Hazlewood took 1-8 while Mitchell Starc (1-14) harmed Marnus Labuschagne's Test claims, having the Queenslander caught behind for four.

Joe Burns weathered the Test-strength bowling attack with 37 not out, with Pat Cummins (0-18) and Nathan Lyon (0-10) wicketless for the Blues.

In Adelaide, the Marsh brothers put on a promising 83-run stand for Western Australia against South Australia.

Shaun Marsh is not out 72 but Mitch fell for 44 which included six fours and a six.
