Tasmanian Chinese group loses grant

A Chinese community group in Hobart is lamenting the loss of a grant promised by the previous Labor federal government.

A Chinese community group in Hobart is lamenting the loss of a grant promised by the previous Labor federal government.

The Chinese Community Association of Tasmania says it had been promised $44,000 to upgrade a community hall that has not been renovated for the past 30 years.

But now the Abbott government says the grant won't go ahead, because of the need to curb government spending.

The president of the Tasmanian community group, Daniel Chan, told Biwa Kwan that Hobart's Chinese community is disappointed with the decision.
