Tasmanian online dating fraudster jailed

A woman who demanded money from a man she met while online dating has been jailed after pleading guilty to defrauding him of $127,000.

A Hobart woman has been jailed for 14 months after pleading guilty to defrauding a NSW man of $127,000 after she met him online.

Robyn Clare Pearce, 61 from Sandford, was sentenced in the Tasmanian Supreme Court on Thursday on the charge of dishonestly obtaining a financial benefit by deception.

The court was told that although the pair never met, the man made numerous transfers in response to her requests for money.
