Tasmanians commemorate Anzac fallen

Dawn services have taken place across Tasmania to mark the 101st anniversary of the Gallipoli landing and to honour all those who have served, past and present.

Thousands of Tasmanians have braved the cold to take part in Anzac Day dawn services around the state.

The biggest crowds were at the Cenotaph in Hobart and at Kingston Beach, south of the city, as well as the Cenotaph in Launceston.

RSL Tasmania President Robert Dick said he was glad to see Anzac services so well attended.

"It goes to show how people are remembering those who served our country," he said.

"It's fantastic to see."

More than 90 towns in Tasmania are marking the 101st anniversary of the Gallipoli landing with dawn or mid-morning services.

Mr Dick said Tasmanian Premier Will Hodgman, who attended the dawn service at Kingston Beach, will speak at the main Anzac service in Hobart at 11am.

Mr Hodgman wrote on Twitter that the beach was a "spectacular setting for a sacred occasion".

Special commemorative services will also be held in Hobart for the 75th anniversary of the Siege of Tobruk and Battle of Crete, with a delegation from Greece in Tasmania's capital city for the occasion.
