Tasmania's Liberal government has received a boost in a new opinion poll, as the state prepares to go to an election.
An internal Liberal Party MediaReach poll of 3000 Tasmanians conducted on Tuesday night shows the Liberals had 41.1 per cent of the primary vote, Labor had 34.3 per cent and the Greens 12.8 per cent, the Hobart Mercury reported.
The poll shows that a minority government remains the likely outcome for Tasmania, but it's an improvement for the government.
Liberal Party state director Sam McQuestin said it was a "major turnaround" for the Liberals from the December EMRS poll, which had the major parties both on 34 per cent.
Premier Will Hodgman is yet to announce the election date, but it is expected to be in March.
According to the MediaReach poll, Mr Hodgman has a preferred premier rating of 48 per cent, while Opposition Leader Rebecca White is on 41.4 per cent.
Earlier this week, Mr Hodgman was given a helping hand by the federal government when Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull signed a City Deal to boost Hobart's development.
