Tassie will fight any govt cutting its GST

Tasmanian Premier Will Hodgman will fight "any government anywhere" if they try to cut his state's GST share.

Tasmanian Premier Will Hodgman has told a room full of Liberal powerbrokers he will "fight any government anywhere" if they cut his state's GST share.

Western Australia has argued for a bigger share of GST revenue since the end of the mining boom, and the federal government is reviewing the formula that determines how much each state gets.

Mr Hodgman used his speech at the Liberal federal council in Sydney to say his government had turned the state's finances around.

"It would be fundamentally unfair to now penalise Tasmania because other states have not been able to do so," Mr Hodgman said on Saturday.

"Tasmania deserves its fair share of the GST, and we will fight any government from anywhere who threatens that."

The federal coalition government and Labor have both promised WA it will get more money, after the state struggled to reign in spending once the mining boom ended.
