Taupau could miss Tigers grudge match

Manly forward Martin Taupau could miss next week's grudge match against his old side Wests Tigers due to a shoulder charge.

Martin Taupau could be rubbed out of next week's grudge match against his former club Wests Tigers due to a shoulder charge.

Manly recruit Taupau left Concord in acrimonious circumstances at the end of 2015 with one year left on his contract, due to a reported falling out with coach Jason Taylor.

The Kiwi international put in an underwhelming effort in the Sea Eagles' 28-6 loss to Canterbury on Friday night, that included a wasteful shoulder charge on Dogs captain James Graham in the first half that was put on report.

Taupau has a poor judiciary record, he was suspended for three matches last year for a swinging arm on then-Sydney Roosters playmaker James Maloney.

So even if the power forward is hit with a grade one shoulder charge, which earns 200 and two games suspension prior to loading, he could be suspended for a string of matches, including Manly's round two assignment against the Tigers at Leichhardt Oval on Monday week.

Manly centre Steve Matai will also be in the sights of the NRL match review committee on Monday after he was put on report at Brookvale Oval due to a high tackle on Dogs prop Aiden Tolman.

The good news for a disappointing Manly outfit is that Brett Stewart is likely to return to the fullback slot for the match against the Tigers after missing round one with a hamstring complaint.
