More competitive business tax rates will help boost wages growth, Finance Minister Mathias Cormann says as he spruiks the Turnbull government's planned cuts.

His claim comes on the back of a key measure of wage rates rising just 2.1 per cent over the past year, equalling the slowest rise on record.

"If you do want to achieve stronger wages growth into the future, one of the key drivers of that will be a more competitive business tax rate and that is of course precisely what we're putting to the parliament in just over 10 days from now," Senator Cormann told ABC TV on Thursday.
