Businesses in flood-affected areas of Queensland and NSW have been given a reprieve by the Australian Tax Office.

They will have their lodgement and payment dates for December activity statements deferred to February 21, a month later than initially required.

The automatic deferral will apply to businesses with addresses within one of the identified flood-affected postcodes listed on the ATO website.

For flood-affected businesses, including those outside the listed postcodes, there is a dedicated emergency support information line available on 1800 806 218.

The ATO says it can help people in the disaster areas by fast-tracking refunds, giving people extra time to pay debts without interest charges and helping reconstruct tax records where documents have been destroyed.

The tax office also is available to help with claims for tax hardship concessions.
