New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor might have missed the last memorable home Test of the summer but has scooped the country's top cricket awards.

Taylor, 29, was named one-day international and Test player of the year at the New Zealand Cricket Awards in Auckland on Thursday evening.

He also earned the Sir Richard Hadlee Medal for player of the year.

Mitchell McClenaghan was named Twenty20 international player of the year in what was a pleasing season at home for New Zealand fans.

They didn't win away series in Bangladesh or Sri Lanka, but came home to beat the West Indies 2-0 in Tests and took out the T20 series, and followed that up by beating India 4-0 in ODIs and 1-0 in Tests.

Brendon McCullum earned a special award for becoming the first New Zealander to register a Test triple century, his 302 scored in the second innings of the Wellington Test against India to ensure a series victory.

Taylor missed that match because of the birth of his second child, but marked the summer with his first Test double century - 217 not out in the drawn Test against the West Indies in Dunedin.

He scored 495 runs and was dismissed just twice in the three West Indies Tests.

He also averaged 85.75 against India in the ODIs.

"Throughout the whole season, I just wanted to be as consistent as possible and, by and large, I think I did that," he said.
