Dave Taylor looks set to be denied a reunion with former NRL club Brisbane, missing a chance to line up against the Broncos' "Andrew Fifita clone" Payne Haas.
Former State of Origin forward Taylor received a lifeline from second tier Queensland Cup outfit Central Capras last week, signing a two year deal after being sacked by UK outfit Toronto Wolfpack.
But Capras coach Kim Williams looks set to avoid the temptation to unleash his prized new signing against Taylor's former club Brisbane in Saturday night's pre-season trial at Theodore, south of Rockhampton.
Williams has indicated Taylor's first match will be the Capras' February 24 trial against Mackay Cutters in Rockhampton.
Taylor, 29, launched his 181-game NRL career with Brisbane back in 2006 and included stops at South Sydney, Gold Coast and 11 appearances for Canberra last year.

His absence against Brisbane would sabotage a showdown with boom 116kg, 194cm teenager Haas.
Just 18, Haas will make his Broncos debut in the front row for a young squad named for the Capras trial.
Haas was named for this month's Emerging Blues camp by new coach Brad Fittler.
Last year Haas was in Queensland's Origin camp, acting as a "Fifita clone" at an opposed session to help the Maroons better defend the giant Blues prop.
The ex-Australian Schoolboy prop was considered the country's hottest under-18 forward prospect and had the pick of 10 NRL clubs plus NFL interest when he emerged from Gold Coast league nursery Keebra Park High and signed with the Broncos at 16.
He impressed in the Broncos under-20s last year.
English Super League signing, backrower Andre Savelio, will also make his Broncos debut.
The squad also features young gun forward David Fifita and 2018 Broncos bench utility candidate Todd Murphy starting at five-eighth.
Wayne Bennett's assistant Kurt Richards will hold the Brisbane reins.
