AFL’s Chief Executive Officer Andrew Demetriou granted teenager Michael Yunipingu the right to man the helm of Australia's most popular sporting code in Melbourne today.

“Michael's a 15-year-old going on 27. He's very wise for his years, he's already given me some early advice which I've taken on board and he's threatened that if I don't implement them then there's going to be trouble," Mr Demetriou said.

Mr Yunipingu wrote to Generation One with the dream of becoming an acting CEO of the AFL for a day.

"I commend Michael for that initiative. I've often said it's a great privilege to serve the game," Mr Demetriou said.

Generation One 'CEO for a Day' initiative aims to broaden the career horizons of Indigenous participants.

After touring AFL headquarters and Etihad Stadium, Mr Yunupingu’s ambitions were heightened.

But, he was reassured that it takes hard work to make a dream become reality.

"I got to keep going to school, getting a good education, meeting new people, keep on playing my favourite sport that I've always played since I was a little kid and yeah, hopefully making it to the AFL," said acting AFL Chief Executive Officer Michael Yunipingu.
