A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after a 16-year-old was allegedly stabbed during a scuffle at a high school in North Wollongong.
Emergency services were called to the school on Lysaght Street just after 1.30pm on Friday.
"I believe there was a fist thrown and then as a result of that, our patient was stabbed in the left lower abdomen with what appears to be like a kitchen paring knife," NSW Ambulance Inspector Norman Rees told reporters.
He said it appeared the blade may have broken off in his abdomen.
The boy was treated by paramedics at the scene before he was airlifted to St George Hospital in Sydney's south in a serious condition.
The other student, 14, fled but later went to Wollongong police station where he was arrested.
Police say he has been assisting with their inquiries.
