Teen arrested in Vic over Sydney murder

A 19-year-old man has been arrested in Victoria after a 67-year-old grandmother was stabbed to death in her western Sydney home.

Police have arrested a teenager in Victoria over the stabbing death of a 67-year-old grandmother in her western Sydney home.

The woman's body was found in South Penrith on Wednesday morning after she reportedly failed to turn up to bingo at the local RSL.

Police established a crime scene and detectives began forensically examining the scene.

A 19-year-old man, known to the dead woman, was arrested at a home in Nhill, western Victoria, on Thursday morning.

He will be transported to Melbourne and charged with her murder, NSW Police in a statement.

Strike force detectives will travel to Victoria to request extradition to NSW when the man appears before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.

"We have never had this in our street," an elderly neighbour told the Seven Network on Thursday

"It is a quiet little street. She didn't turn up at bingo so we knew something was up."

The victim's red Subaru car, reported missing after the discovery of her body, was located in a Penrith carpark later on Wednesday.
