A mother and daughter are in shock after a teenage boy was killed in a road accident northeast of Alice Springs.

Police believe the 15-year-old was travelling with family members when their vehicle rolled on the Plenty Highway east of Harts Range.

In a statement on Saturday night, Assistant Commissioner Narelle Beer said police found the teenager dead at the scene.

"The mother and daughter are understandably in a great deal of shock and have sustained non-life threatening injuries and are being taken to Alice Springs for treatment," Assistant Commissioner Beer said.
