A 13-year-old boy has been charged after he allegedly fled police in a stolen Mercedes in western Sydney.

Police say they saw two Mercedes travelling together at Whalan on Monday morning, and when they attempted to stop the cars they allegedly fled in different directions.

They pursued one of the cars but soon stopped over safety concerns.

The car was later found abandoned at Emerton, and shortly after the 13-year-old boy was arrested and charged with failing to stop and driving without a licence.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
