A teenager has been charged with deliberately lighting a fire that caused the evacuation of up to 15 residents in Sydney's west.
The fire threatened homes near the Backhousia Reserve in Northmead on Sunday afternoon before firefighters contained it after about two hours.
It came as crews battled 63 fires across the state which broke out in dangerously hot and windy conditions.
Police have arrested a 15-year-old boy at a home in Winston Hills and have charged him with intentionally causing fire and being reckless about its spread.
He's been granted bail and will appear in court on December 2.
