An 18-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of Perth teenager Kuol Akut in hospital two days ago.

Kuol, 17, who was from South Sudan and lived in suburban Ballajura, was found lying on a footpath in Girrawheen just before midnight on February 19 and had been in a coma before he died at Royal Perth Hospital.

WA police say the 18-year-old from Balga was arrested on Friday and has since been charged with murder.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday.
