A teenager has been charged with trying to murder his mother inside her southwest Sydney home.

Police say the woman was home alone at the Rosemeadow house at about 6.40pm on Saturday when the 19-year-arrived and smashed a front window with his arms.

It will be alleged he entered the home and seriously injured his 44-year-old mother, before leaving through the window and collapsing outside.

Both were taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment, where she remains with serious head injuries.

The teenager, who is being treated for severe cuts to his arms, was charged with attempted murder on Monday.
