Teen cricket prospect set to trump Perry

Allrounder Rachael Trenaman is set to become the youngest player to appear for the NSW Breakers cricket team, beating the record of superstar Ellyse Perry.

Highly regarded 15-year allrounder Rachael Trenaman is poised to beat a record held by cricketing superstar Ellyse Perry.

Trenaman, an attacking middle order batter and leg spinner, has been named in the NSW Breakers squad of 12 for their WNCL clash with Victoria in Melbourne, starting on Friday.

Perry, who has represented Australia in both cricket and football, holds the record for being the youngest Breaker, making her debut at 16.

She will miss Friday's game as she is on international duty with Australia playing South Africa on the same day in the opening clash of a five-match one-day series in Canberra.

Wagga Wagga product Trenaman has already had a taste of elite level cricket.

She played alongside Perry for the Governor General's XI against South Africa in a one-day game in Sydney last Sunday.

Sydney Thunder WBBL regional rookie Trenaman batted at No.7, scoring 3 off 18 balls and taking 0-22 off four overs.

The absence of Perry and fellow internationals Alex Blackwell, Alyssa Healy and Rene Farrell means that for the first time the Breakers squad includes three teenagers. .

Batter Mikayla Hinkley 18, and Hannah Trethewy, 17, join Trenaman as the new faces.

"Rachael, Hannah and Mikayla are all enormously talented and have put in a lot of long hours preparing for this moment," .Breakers coach Joanne Broadbent said.

" With the guidance of players like Sarah Aley, who will be making her 100th appearance for the Breakers, and captain Rachael Haynes, they are in a position to step up and have a massive positive impact on the game."

The second-placed Breakers will back up on Sunday with a home match against the ACT.
