A teenage girl has died while competing in a horse-riding competition in the NSW Hunter Valley.
Olivia Inglis, from a well-known family in the equestrian industry, was competing in the cross-country phase of the Scone Horse trials when she fell off during a jump on Sunday morning.
The 17-year-old had been riding the family's horse Coriolanus, according to Equestrian Australia's Judy Fasher.
"It is with the deepest regret we announce that Olivia Inglis suffered a tragic accident whilst competing in the cross-country phase at the Scone Horse Trials," Ms Fasher said in a statement on Sunday.
An on-course paramedic and doctor rushed to save the teenager - the Westpac rescue helicopter was also used - but she died at the scene.
"The Scone Horse Trials committee and Equestrian Australia offer their heartfelt condolences to Charlotte and Arthur Inglis and their family for their tragic loss and request their privacy be respected at this time," Ms Fasher said.
The Inglis family breeds and sells thoroughbreds horses for competition.
The horse remains in a stable condition and the event has been cancelled.
Counselling has been offered for people who witnessed the accident.
