Garg was stabbed to death as he walked through Cruickshank Park in Yarraville in January 2010.

The murder made international headlines and strained relationships with Melbourne's large Indian community.

On Wednesday, a 16-year-old pleaded guilty to the murder and attempted armed robbery of Mr Garg in the Victorian Supreme Court.

Garg, an accounting graduate who had been in Australia on a student visa, staggered to the nearby Hungry Jack's where his friends tried to help him but died early the next day in hospital.

The 16-year-old boy was remanded in custody to appear in the Victorian Supreme Court for a pre-sentence hearing in June.
