An 18-year-old man accused of mowing down and killing a mother of two in a shopping centre car park did not apply for bail during a brief court appearance.

Caleb Jakobsson was remanded in custody until Tuesday after facing the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Saturday over the hit-run death of mother-of-two Andrea Lehane.

Family of the 33-year-old nurse switched off her life support on Friday and donated her organs after she suffered "unsurvivable" brain damage in the crash at Carrum Downs on Wednesday.

Ms Lehane's husband James attended the brief hearing, supported by friends and relatives.

Jakobsson is charged with culpable driving, dangerous driving causing death, failing to stop and render assistance and other driving offences.

He did not apply for bail and was remanded to appear at a filing hearing on Tuesday.

It's alleged Jakobsson hit Ms Lehane as she walked across a pedestrian crossing in the car park of the Carrum Downs Regional Shopping Centre just after 5pm on Wednesday.

Jakobsson's lawyer Theo Magazis said the teen has not eaten in two days and has had previous thoughts of self harm.

It is his first time in custody and is vulnerable because of his age and appearance, he said.
