Teen waterskier hit by boat in Sydney race

A teenage boy has been hit by another boat while waterskiing during a world championship selection race on the Cooks River in Sydney's south.

A 15-year-old waterskier competing in a race to qualify for the world championships remains in a Sydney hospital in a critical condition after he was struck by a boat.

The teen was hit by another boat during a selection race on Botany Bay at Kyeemagh in Sydney's south just before midday on Saturday.

A Ski Racing Australia spokesperson said he was treated in the water before he was taken to a nearby boat ramp.

Four ambulance crews and a helicopter were called to the ramp at Tancred Ave, and treated the boy for serious head and leg injuries before taking him to nearby St George Hospital.

The drivers of both boats have been taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.
