Teenage boy fighting for life after being crushed by gym equipment

A teenager remains in a critical condition in a Brisbane hospital after he was injured during a gym workout earlier this week.

A Brisbane teenager remains on life support in hospital after he was critically injured during a gym workout.

Benjamin Shaw's neck was reportedly pinned by equipment on Tuesday at the Pine Rivers PCYC.

Staff administered first aid before the 15-year-old was rushed to the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital.
A bar fell across his neck as he was trying to life 100kg, according to the ABC.

Benjamin plays for the under 15s Pine Central Holy Spirit Hornets rugby league club in division two.

President Sharon Hickey took to social media on Wednesday night to urge members of the community to say a prayer for him and his family.

"He is currently on life support fighting for his life at Lady Cilento," she said in a Facebook post.

PCYC Queensland chief Phil Schultz said the organisation was "deeply saddened" by the incident.

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of this teenager during this difficult time," he said.

"We will also offer support to family and friends of the young man involved.

Worksafe Queensland has launched an investigation and the Pine Rivers PCYC has been closed until further notice.
