Teens charged with assaulting off-duty cop

Two teens have been charged with assaulting an off-duty NSW police officer outside his home, putting him in hospital with serious injuries.

An off-duty NSW police officer has allegedly been seriously assaulted by two youths outside his home.

Police say the officer was attacked on Friday night after approaching the pair pulling plants out of a nature strip at Towradgi, near Wollongong.

The teens allegedly became verbally aggressive before following the officer home and repeatedly assaulting him.

Police say the pair fled the scene after the man's partner went to his assistance.

He was admitted to hospital with suspected facial fractures, and cuts and bruises to his head and body.

The teens have been charged with assaulting police occasioning grievous bodily harm and bailed to appear at a children's court on December 4.
