Telstra plans to triple the number of regional towns covered by its 4G mobile broadband network to 300 by the end of the year.
It will increase coverage to 85 per cent of Australians, up from 66 per cent at the end of June, the company announced on Thursday.
Brendon Riley, Telstra's Chief Operations Officer, said the expansion would target popular holiday spots along the coast.
So far 46 towns have been confirmed, with the rest set to be announced in coming months.
Telstra would also increase its 4G "footprint" in the suburbs of capital cities, Mr Riley said.
The expansion will involve upgrading 1500 base stations currently equipped to transmit signals on the slower 3G network.
Warwick Bray, the Executive Director of Telstra Mobile, said in a statement the move was a response to increasing demand for super-fast mobile internet.
"Data use on Telstra's 4G is growing at approximately 23 per cent each month, meaning it is more than doubling every four months," he said.
