Tencent curbs time kids can play video

Tech giant Tencent will restrict the time Chinese children spend playing its popular video game King of Glory.

Tech giant Tencent will restrict the time Chinese children spend playing its popular video game King of Glory after parents and schools complained that children have become addicted to it.

Starting on Tuesday, children under 12 will only be able to play for one hour daily and will be unable to access the game after 9pm while those aged over 12 years will be able to play for a maximum of two hours per day.

The game will remind users of the duration they have been playing and once their stipulated time is over, they will be forced to log out, according to the Shanghai Daily.

Tencent said these are the most stringent measures adopted in China by a company to prevent addiction.

Also, following complaints that children are spending too much money on the game, Tencent said it will add a new function to limit the money children can spend on it.

The company also said it has updated its system so that parents can monitor their children and know when they are playing games.
