Tennis Australia has joined a United Nations push for climate action in sport, which will see the Australian Open attempt to reduce its environmental footprint.
The Australian tennis body joins its US, England and French counterparts to be part of the Sports for Climate Action network.
As a result, the world's grand slam tournaments will all promote action against climate change.
The commitment involves five principles, including efforts to promote greater environmental responsibility, reducing overall climate impact and educating for climate action.
Tennis Australia and the other bodies will also promote sustainable and responsible consumption, while also advocating for climate action.
The World Surf League this week announced it would become carbon neutral globally by the end of this year.
