Te'o misses England rugby training

Unspecified medical advice has been given as the reason rugby league convert Ben Te'o missed England's training session on the Gold Coast on Monday.

Ben Te'o was a notable absentee from England rugby training on the Gold Coast on Monday.

The former NRL star is considered a strong chance to debut for the tourists against the Wallabies in Brisbane on Saturday but missed the session on "medical advice".

England have played down any longer-term concerns over the former South Sydney, Brisbane Bronco and Wests Tigers player.

England defensive coach Paul Gustard says Te'o will return to training on Tuesday, when preparations for the Suncorp Stadium clash ramp up.

Te'o was officially welcomed to the England setup by his teammates on Sunday night.

Fullback Mike Brown said the behind-closed doors initiation was "good fun" and Te'o had quickly found his place among his new teammates.

"Not dodgy, it was just a bit of fun," Brown said.

"Bit of banter and enjoying each other's company off the field."

Te'o's call up comes after two seasons in Irish rugby where the 29-year-old played for Leinster.

A switch to English club Worcester and his mother's English heritage made him eligible for the Red Rose, with a call-up from coach Eddie Jones coming shortly afterwards.

Brown says while Te'o's inclusion is viewed as a gamble by some, he is confident the ex-Queensland State of Origin representative has what it takes to succeed.

"Being a rugby league fan myself, I know what he's about," Brown said.

"Big, physical guy. Good offload, hands and skills. Very physical, so, yeah, looking forward to training with him more."
