France has been the focus of a number of terror-related attacks in 2015.

TERRORIST ATTACKS IN FRANCE IN 2015

Nov - More than 100 killed in simultaneous shootings and explosions at six locations including Stade de France and the Bataclan concert hall.

Aug - American servicemen help subdue a gunmen in an attempted attack on a Thalys train in France.

July - French authorities foil a "terrorist" plot to capture and decapitate a member of its armed forces.

June - Yassin Salhi, 35, confesses to beheading his boss during an attack on a gas factory in Lyon.

April - An Algerian IT student was detained when police discovered his plans to attack one or two churches in the town of Villejuif.

- French Prime Minister Manuel Valls says five terror attacks have been "foiled" in his country since 2013.

March - Counter-terrorism officials say threats of a jihadist attack in France at a level "without precedent" and new attacks are inevitable.

Feb - A knife-wielding man attacks three soldiers guarding a Jewish community centre on the French Riviera.

Jan - Jihadist attacks against Charlie Hebdo magazine and a Jewish supermarket leave 17 dead.

Note - More than 500 French fighters are thought to be with IS in Syria and Iraq. Official figures show 250 have returned and some 750 expressed a desire to go there.
