Test squad omission will drive WA: Voges

A raft of Western Australian players who missed Test selection will be keen to impress during the next Sheffield Shield round, skipper Adam Voges says.

Skipper Adam Voges says Western Australia's failed Test candidates will have a point to prove during the side's next Sheffield Shield match against South Australia.

After securing a 162-run season-opening win over Tasmania in Hobart, the Warriors will lose Voges, Mitchell Johnson and Mitch Marsh to the Australian Test squad.

It means a slightly modified WA line-up for the match in Adelaide, starting Friday.

"We've still got plenty of senior players in Michael Klinger and Shaun Marsh and a couple of young guns (Cameron) Bancroft and (Marcus) Harris," Voges said of the group left behind to fly the WA flag.

"I know all of those names were probably hoping to be in Brisbane (for the Test) so I think those guys will certainly be really determined to do well in Adelaide.

"It's still a very strong batting line up that we're going to have."

Klinger was instrumental in the Hobart win, producing an unbeaten 202 and 50 not out, over two innings.

A strong performance by the 35-year-old batsman in Adelaide should catch the attention of selectors.

Shaun Marsh will take over WA's captaincy for the Adelaide match.

Hobart was not a good stage for the 32-year old, who batted at No.3 only to be cheaply dismissed in both innings for 15 and one.

It coincided with his omission from the Test squad announced on Friday, after he was hotly tipped for inclusion.
