A reshuffle of Australia's Test squad is opening doors for talented youngsters and hidden stars but age and experience still play an important part, Tasmania skipper George Bailey says.
Fresh from Australia's one-day series win over England, Bailey, 33, on Friday noted the inclusion of Adam Voges, two years his senior, as vice-captain of the Test side bound for Bangladesh and applauded the decision.
West Australian Voges was the "logical choice" when a spot opened in the Test squad, Bailey told reporters in Hobart.
"If you're over 30, if you're under 20, it shows that if you're performing, you'll get a chance."
Tasmanian paceman Andrew Fekete's debut in the Test squad at age 30 is another example of a new opportunity, Bailey said.
"He doesn't have a great amount of first-class games under his belt but if you look around the country last year he was a stand out performer.
"That's how international teams should be.
"I know there will always be people pushing for younger players to come in and there's always a balance of that, but at the end of the day your best team is your best team."
Bailey's last Test appearance was in January 2014 when Australia beat England in Sydney by 281 runs, and the middle-order batsman scored 1 and 46.
