Test stars to return in SCG Shield clash

Tim Paine and Nathan Lyon will step up their preparations for a four-Test series against India at the SCG during next week's Sheffield Shield game.

Test skipper Tim Paine and offspinner Nathan Lyon will start their build up for Australia's series against India on Monday, when they square off in a Sheffield Shield clash at the SCG.

Paine will play under the captaincy of Tasmania veteran George Bailey while Lyon is one of three inclusions in NSW's squad.

Paine and Lyon were both left out of Australia's ODI squad, with the latter asked to concentrate on his red-ball bowling ahead of India's impending arrival.

Alex Carey has replaced Paine behind the stumps and been named Australia's vice-captain in white-ball cricket.

The four-Test series between Australia and India starts at Adelaide Oval on December 6.

Ben McDermott, who made his international debut in the UAE with the Twenty20 side, and former NSW paceman Gurinder Sandhu have also been added to Tasmania's extended 15-man squad.

The Blues have added Lyon, former Test tweaker Steve O'Keefe and paceman Sean Abbott to their squad at the expense of allrounder Daniel Sams, legspinner Daniel Fallins and fast bowler Mickey Edwards.

The Shield match was originally going to start on Saturday but a late change to the schedule ensured SCG staff were given sufficient time to prepare the season's first pitch.

The iconic venue hosted the A-League derby between Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers there last Saturday.
