Texting and driving in Qld nearly epidemic

Texting while driving is so prevalent it's like the drink-driving of our time, Queensland's peak motoring group says.

Texting behind the wheel is such a huge problem in Queensland that it's almost an "epidemic", the state's peak motoring group says.

"This is a problem so widespread and there is an ongoing battle to get cut-through, much like where we were with the drink-driving message 20 years ago," RACQ spokeswoman Lauren Ritchie said.

The message comes on the first day of Road Safety Week, which has a focus on driver distractions.
