Flemington might not have hosted a Kardashian but on Derby Day it got a Kardashian ex.
Scott Disick, ex-boyfriend of eldest Kardashian sister Kourtney, attended the first day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival on Saturday with new partner, Sofia Richie.
The 35-year-old reality TV star, who calls himself "Lord Disick" said the vibe at the racetrack was "unbelievable".
"I feel like a lord wherever I go," he told reporters.
Also jetting in from America for the festivities was Australian expat Elle Macpherson, who raised eyebrows in a one-shoulder ruffled white dress over a pair of white pants by Maticevski.
The supermodel refused to remove her sunglasses and told photographers to step back as she posed outside the Lexus marquee.
"Babe, it's part of the look," she told one snapper.
Macpherson said she was loving the black and white-themed race day.
"Its an opportunity for people to really experiment with fashion and adhere to a certain dress code but do it with their own unique style," she said.
Former foreign minister Julie Bishop was the most popular guest, visiting four marquees in her black boater hat and billowy white silk shirt.
"It's a magical event, people get dressed up, they come out for a wonderful day and it's Melbourne at it's very best," she said.
While at the Bumble marquee, Bishop met the dating app's CEO, Whitney Wolfe Herd, who said the company's presence was about getting people off the internet and face-to-face.
"A lot of social media platforms keep you in the platform; we're about taking you off the platform and if we're successful we've actually taken you out into the real word," Wolfe Herd told AAP.
Meanwhile, Myer ambassadors Jennifer Hawkins and Elyse Knowles mingled with Fashions on the Field contestants in the general admission area, following the retailer's departure from the Birdcage.
Hawkins chose a white asymmetrical Maticevski dress while Knowles wore a black Alex Perry mini and $100,000 worth of Bulgari jewelery.
The suit in all its variations was the reining trend of the day. Designer Effie Kats, who specialises in custom-made suits, said she created about 120 for Cup week.
"Women want to exude power and confidence and there is nothing more strong and sexy than a suit," she said.
The headwear of choice for A-listers and public racegoers alike was boater hats, netted veils and visors.
And for the men, grey was the most popular shade, with many rocking stripe or checked variations.
Later in the afternoon, Olympic legend Usain Bolt made his first public appearance since leaving the A-League's Central Coast Mariners.
He didn't take questions but flashed a smile and his signature victory pose.
