To try and raise money for his kidney transplant, his wife and son, have turned their efforts to the internet once again. They've created a GoFundMe campaign with the goal of raising $75,000 USD to help pay for his medical treatment.

They've been able to attact close to 300 donations in five days. So far, they've raised $48,000.

But the Griner family is also looking for a living donor.

In an interview with ABC News America, Mrs Griner says her husband spends four hours a day, three days aweek on dialysis.

She says their health insurance will cover most of the post-surgery costs but thet still need about $12,000 in the first year to cover drugs alone.

Laney Griner says she decided against using her son's popular meme as the picture for the fundraising, in the hopes people would see the family in need behind the humourous image.

"By now, it's just out there. What am I going to do? At least it’s positive," she said. "Without that happening, how much could I get this recognition about my husband's kidney transplant?" she told ABC News America.
