Without the daring actions of citizen journalists operating with mobile phones and other devices in Syria's towns and cities, many newsrooms would simply be unable to put television news of the uprising together.

One activist, Danny Dayem, fled the violence in Homs for London.

But recently, he returned, to risk his life reporting on the siege of the city.

His family invited CNN to their home, to document their daily ordeal, their pride in their son, and their fears.
