The deal for the new RAH

Details of the deal for the new Royal Adelaide Hospital

THE DEAL FOR THE NEW ROYAL ADELAIDE HOSPITAL:

* The government entered into a public-private partnership with a development consortium to build the hospital at the developer's cost, budgeted at more than $2 billion.

* It has now signed off on commercial acceptance which means the government must start paying more than $1 million a day in payments to the consortium or about $380 million a year for the next 29 years.

* During that time the consortium remains responsible for maintenance and upgrades of the hospital as well as for all non-clinical services including security, catering and cleaning.

* When it hands back the facility, the consortium must deliver a hospital "in new condition".

* The government says it remains on track to treat the first patients at the new RAH in early September after completing training for thousands of staff.
