Guissepe Aiossa was just six-years-old when he started cutting hair.
After migrating to Australia at 17 from Italy, he set up his salon in Sydney's CBD and it is now one of Sydney's most beloved barber shops.
Mr Aiossa said there wass one thing he has enjoyed most about his work.
"My customers," he told SBS News.
"Especially the customers that have been here for [nearly] 50 years and they're still coming."
But after 49, Mr Aiossa is putting down his scissors, forced to shut up shop as the centre he works in faces redevelopment.
"I'm not very happy, I can tell you that, because we miss all our customers," he said.
Mr Aiossa has had customers ranging from some of Sydney's most prominent businessmen and politicians through to Hollywood actor Bruce Willis.
But he says it doesn't matter who is getting a haircut, they always get the best service.
"You look after the head and the person and style according to the face. So you don't look how much money they've got in the pocket," he said.
Former NSW premier, Nick Greiner is one of his favourite customers and has been visiting Mr Aiossa's barber shop for nearly 40 years.
"I think it's a really consistent, comfortable, good service sort of place and that's why so many of the customers come back," Mr Greiner said.
Despite working together for nearly 50 years, co-worker Antonio Mauceri said the group still wants to keep going.
"We are like brothers," he told SBS News.
"It's been an honour to work with Guiseppe for 45 years."
Mr Aiossa's barber shop will be open for another two weeks, before closing permanently at the end of the month.
