DAVID GONSKI'S VISION TO REFORM AUSTRALIA'S SCHOOLS
* Change the curriculum to set out learning progressions in each subject.
* Make sure each student gets a year's worth of learning for every year they're at school.
* Review the years 11 and 12 curricula to ensure students have the skills they need for the future.
* Create an online tool for teachers to regularly assess where each student is at and how they are progressing.
* Teachers should prioritise basic literacy and numeracy in the early years.
* Give students a special student number to track their growth.
* Allow students to have a voice and to provide feedback about their own education.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
* The government accepts all 23 recommendations in principle.
* Mr Gonski will brief state and territory education ministers at a special COAG meeting on Friday.
* The government will work with states and territories and non-government school systems to work out how the reforms should be delivered.
* A new reform agreement between the Commonwealth and states will be negotiated this year to come into effect from 2019.
