The Labor MPs under citizenship cloud

Four Labor MPs could face High Court referral after they lodged documents which raise questions about their eligibility.

FOUR LABOR MPS FACING DUAL CITIZENSHIP CLOUD

SUSAN LAMB - QUEENSLAND MP

* Acquired British citizenship by descent through her Scottish born father.

* May 24, 2016, filled out renunciation of British citizenship form and sent it by registered post the next day. Home Office processed payment on June 6.

* Nomination cut off is June 9

* Home Office sought further information on July 7

* Home Office sent her a letter dated August 10 stating "we can not be satisfied from the documents available that you hold British citizenship. The application has been refused".

JUSTINE KEAY - TASMANIAN MP

* Acquired British citizenship by descent through UK-born father.

* Completed renunciation of British citizenship form May 9, 2016 and sent by registered post on May 13. Document arrived on May 23.

* Nomination cut off is June 9.

* The UK Home Office wrote on July 8, confirming her citizenship had been renounced.

JOSH WILSON - WEST AUSTRALIAN MP

* Born in Britain.

* Completed renunciation of British citizenship form on May 12 and sent by registered post the following day. Arriving at the Home Office May 16.

* Payment processed June 9.

* Nomination cut off is June 9.

* June 24 receives confirmation from Home Office of renunciation.

DAVID FEENEY - VICTORIAN MP

* Father born in Belfast, Northern Ireland UK. It's not known whether his father declared Irish citizenship.

* In October 2007 prior to nominating for the Senate, he looked into whether he had Irish or UK citizenship. He signed documents to renounce any inherited citizenship.

* As far as he's aware the documents were sent to the relevant British and Irish authorities.

* He sought confirmation from the British Home Office about his 2007 renunciation in November 2017. He's also made enquires with the Irish embassy.

* Labor's head office is searching for historical electronic documents from the time of his 2007 nomination.
