SBS correspondent Kathy Novak caught up with some of the soldiers coming back from the Iraqi and Afghan front lines.

It was an emotional reunion for some families in Atlanta, Georgia where US soldiers and their partners had a chance to briefly spend time together after months apart.

War veterans were also there to greet those who did not have anyone to see them at the airport.

Bystanders also greeted soldiers who were heading back to the frontline with loud cheers and applause.
