The hit movie 'The Sapphires' is already being called a 'gem' in the Australian film industry, after it premiered last night at the Melbourne International Film Festival.
Inspired by a true story, the film follows four Aboriginal women from the Yorta Yorta people, whose homeland is on both sides of the Murray River on the New South-Wales Victoria border.
Last night, about 200 Yorta Yorta family members gathered for the gala opening in Melbourne.
The film already has a global distribution deal, selection for the Toronto Film Festival and wide cinema release in Australia.
It opens next week.
