Prince Harry has fired up 500 athletes competing at the Sydney Invictus Games by praising them as the new generation of servicemen and women.
On the eve of the first full day of competition, Prince Harry told the Games' opening ceremony at the Opera House on Saturday night how their generation was redefining what it means to serve despite their sacrifices too often going unrecognised by society.
"With the help of medical science,the Invictus generation has not only survived injuries that in past conflicts would have been fatal, but has also chosen to fight back from the darkest of places to be here tonight," Prince Harry told the crowd of competitors, their families and friends who cheered him on at the Opera House's forecourt.
"They have shown us the true meaning of resilience.

"You are the unconquered generation. You are the optimistic generation. You are the new generation of service and you are the role models to us all."
Organisers were forced to delay the start of the opening ceremony by more than an hour on Saturday night after a thunder storm hit Sydney.
Harry and wife Meghan will be on hand to see athletes compete on the first full day of competition on Sunday, attending cycling and sailing events in the city.
They'll also be guests at a reception hosted by Prime Minister Scott Morrison and meet with veterans' support and mental health groups as well as members of the Australian Air Force Cadets and Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation.
Harry has urged all Australians to get behind the Games.
"Be inspired. Get excited. Allow the example of service and determination you will see, to change something big or small in your own lives," he said during the opening ceremony.
"Australia - let's show the world how it's done."
