A German therapist who had been held hostage for nearly two days by a patient was freed after talking her captor into giving himself up.
Police in the eastern German city of Weimar say the 50-year-old was taken hostage on early Thursday by the man who forced her to drive around the area near Weimar.
The two later travelled by foot and into a nearby forest as police began a search using helicopters and sniffer dogs.
According to reports, the therapist had suffered violence during her ordeal, but police did not provide details.
She alerted police after she convinced the man, a violent offender with a criminal record, to give himself up.
