A burglar planning to rob a Florida home stole a little nap instead and ended up in handcuffs, officials said on Wednesday.

The man - apparently overcome with exhaustion - laid down on a bed at the home during a burglary on Monday, and fell into a deep sleep, the local sheriff's department told AFP.

A cleaning lady at the house, outside the town of Sarasota, found the napping robber and called police.

Authorities took photos of the thief, identified as Dion Davis, 29, moments before placing him under arrest.

Police said that when they arrived, Davis was still in a deep slumber, lying next to a plastic bag filled with the jewelry he had planned to steal.
