This could be my second last deal: Moses

Parramatta star Mitchell Moses admits his decision on his next NRL contract will be one of the biggest calls of his career.

Parramatta star Mitchell Moses insists he wants to remain at the NRL club but knows the decision will be one of the biggest calls of his career.

After re-signing skipper Clint Gutherson last month, the Eels are believed to have made Moses their priority ahead of a host of off-contract players this season.

And while Moses is keen on a extension, the 24-year-old understands the ramifications of committing to a long-term deal.

"It's a massive deal for me. It may be my second last contract. Who knows? I don't know how much footy I've got in me," Moses told AAP.

"I'm still young, but it is a big part of my life and I definitely do want to stay, so hopefully they can sort it out as soon as possible really."

While negotiations remain ongoing, Moses is relieved that the circumstances around the talks are cleaner than the last time he was off-contract.

It was only two years ago that the former Wests Tigers playmaker narrowly avoided being hit by a full can of beer after requesting a release to join the Eels.

Moses said he is a far more mature person this time around.

"Obviously it wasn't too pretty last time. Me and my management have handled it a lot better (this time)," he said.

"They've been enormous for me through the whole process and really just letting me know that you're job is to play footy and our job is to look after your contract."

Moses upped his value last week with a strong performance against an understrength South Sydney side that included three try assists.

His 96 metres gained is also the most he's carried the ball since round 19 in 2018.

"I just needed to get my running game back," he said.

"I felt like it's coming back slowly. For me, I guess I've been trying to control the game a bit too much and, as a halfback, you've got to do those things.

"But I've been going away from my running game."
